INDIANA -- Gatti Pharmacy hopes to help patients battle high medication costs by getting them the medications they need at prices they can afford through a new membership program.
Gatti, a community pharmacy now located at 1024 Philadelphia Street in downtown Indiana, launched their membership program this month in their effort to help provide solutions to patients' problems. This new service is not insurance, but rather an opportunity that makes it possible for individuals to receive deeply discounted pricing along with the advantages of a pharmacist's endless knowledge.
"Medication costs are on the rise," said Stephanie Smith Cooney, owner of Gatti Pharmacy, Pharm.D. "What patients don't often realize is that there are programs available to make a big difference. We decided to create this program to make identifying cost-savings, using the pharmacist's expertise, accessible to everyone."
With the service, medication fees are able to be cheaper than insurance due to the fact hat pricing is not based on insurance payment formulas or he most expensive brands, which allows Gatti to charge steeply reduced cash prices. Those who sign up will have the choice between joining at the Gatti Gold or Gatti Silver level.
While joining at the Gatti Silver level provides discounted medications for members, those who opt for Gatti Gold will have the added benefits of a Gatti pharmacist providing a comprehensive review of your medications, looking not only for hose cost-savings, but also problems that can be communicated to your healthcare team.
"Gatti Gold members can also enjoy price-cuts on over-the-counter items, free shipping [within Pennsylvania], and other in-store discounts," Kyle McCormick, Pharm.D., said. "This program is not like other pharmacy discount programs where you receive points for spending; it's meant to make medications more manageable and realistic while also getting the care and attention needed from a pharmacist."
As an example of the steeply discounted pricing tat's part of the program, patients could obtain the common medication, esomeprazole (generic Nexium) for only $30.96 compared to a price of $233 for the same medication from a local competitor. Additionally, Gatti pharmacists are experts in helping identify drug therapy problems and opportunities for savings for a patient.
"This benefit i what sets our program apart and makes it best-in-class," said Smith Cooney.
She added, "We have many examples of ways we've already saved patients money or solved other problems. Now, we hope this service can help even more people with their medications."
